$13.5 million crop insurance funding presented to the Navajo Nation

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — CKP Insurance presented a $13.5 million crop insurance check to the Navajo Nation for indemnities based on the 2023 crop year on Feb. 8. Members of the Resources and Development Committee were in attendance for the check presentation, on behalf of the Navajo Nation.

UPDATE: Tamberly has been found and is safe.

The Gallup Police is asking for the public's help in finding Tamberly Begay, 18.

Tamberly is five feet and five inches tall, and weighs about 200 pounds.

She has burgundy-colored hair and brown eyes, and a tattoo of three roses on her right arm.

Tamberly was last seen headed to school at Miyamura High School.  She was wearing a maroon jacket with the word “Alaskan” on it. Tamberly was wearing Ariat jeans.

Anyone with information on Tamberly's whereabouts is asked to call Metro Dispatch at (505) 722-2002.

SANTA FE — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham appointed Brig. Gen. Jamison Herrera as Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services on Feb. 6. Herrera has served as the Acting Secretary of the department since September, while concurrently holding the position of Deputy Adjutant General for the New Mexico National Guard.

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Senate unanimously confirmed Josett Monette as the Cabinet Secretary for the New Mexico Indian Affairs Department on Feb. 5.

“Secretary Monette’s extensive background in serving Indigenous people uniquely positions her to address the challenges facing our tribal communities and realize the opportunities,” Gov. Zuni man charged with stabbing

A Zuni man has been charged with assault after he reportedly stabbed a man in the throat.

According to the criminal complaint, on Feb. 4,  Joey Luarkie, 23,  was at a woman’s home when her boyfriend knocked on the door. The couple went outside and argued for a short time before the man came back inside to get his stuff.

Luarkie, a member of the Zuni Pueblo, followed the couple into the woman’s bedroom, where a physical altercation allegedly ensued, and the boyfriend was stabbed in the throat.

The victim left the house and collapsed in the front yard, where responding officers from the Zuni Police Department found the woman performing CPR on him. The victim was transported to Zuni...
