In a press release published Feb. 13, the City of Gallup stated that city officials are aware of technical issues that affected billing for utility customers. In the press release city officials said they wanted to assure the public that late fees will not be assessed for these bills. City utility customers may have received their monthly bill in the mail after the printed due date on the bill itself. The delay was due to issues with a system upgrade, which have since been resolved. Customers will not be charged a late fee for their January bills and City Customer Care will work with customers to resolve any issues they are experiencing.

Scheduled electrical outage for Feb. 20
A scheduled electrical outage will take place on Feb. 20 from 9 am to 4 pm while the City of Gallup does some necessary electrical infrastructure maintenance.
The affected areas will be the area of Bortot Drive and Boyd Avenue. Surrounding areas may be affected.

LCPD officer killed in line of duty
LAS CUCES — The Las Cruces Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own who was killed in the line of duty after responding to a call Feb. 11. Patrol officer Jonah Hernandez, from El Paso, Texas, who has been with the Las Cruces Police Department for two years, was stabbed at least once after responding to a trespassing call on the 300 block of south Valley Drive around 5 pm. Hernandez was transported a local hospital where he died due to his injuries.
The investigation is in the very early stages but, at this point, police believe Hernandez was stabbed by the suspect who allegedly trespassed onto the property. So far, the investigation has also revealed that the suspect...
Senate unanimously confirms Chief W. Troy Weisler as New Mexico State Police Chief
SANTA FE — The New Mexico Senate unanimously confirmed W. Troy Weisler as the 23rd New Mexico State Police Chief on Feb. 11. “Chief Weisler has already demonstrated incredible leadership, and public safety will continue to be positively impacted with him at the helm,” Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said.
f Weisler began his career with the New Mexico State Police as a patrol officer in Deming in 2002 before transferring to Moriarty. He then served in various investigation, research and narcotics roles in Farmington, Albuquerque and Santa Fe. He has been serving as acting Chief since his appointment in May and was Deputy Chief since 2021.
