Water shutoff planned for downtown area today

Staff ReportsAccording to a City of Gallup news release, the company DUB-L-EE, LLC, an Albuquerque-based plumbing, heating, and construction firm, has scheduled a water shut off between Coal and Aztec avenues for a period of no more than 3.5 hours Tuesday. Water outage will start at 1 pm and last until 4:30 pm. The City of Gallup encourages those affected by the outage to contact the city's utilities department dispatch at (505) 863-1200, if water is not active after the transfer, as this helps identify additional services that may be needed in the area.

N.M. plans for material-world application of natural resources

Escalante H2 Power is taking steps to convert the Escalante Generating Station from a coal-fired to a hydrogen-fired plant. If the project is a success, it would create up to 270 MW of clean power, and more than 500 temporary jobs during construction as well as at least 60 permanent positions once it’s in operation. More than 100 people lost their jobs when the plant closed in Aug. 2020.

After the Escalante plant closed, Brooks Energy Company and Newport Gas, LLC, formed Escalante H2 Power intending to make Escalante the first plant to be successfully converted from coal-burning to hydrogen-fueled.

Lodgers’ Tax committee approves three events

The Lodgers’ Tax committee has set its sights on Gallup’s spring and summer events. During a Jan. 6 meeting, three event organizers came before the committee to request funding for upcoming festivities.

Seth Bush asked the committee for $6,000 for his 24 Hours in the Enchanted Forest Bike Race that will take place on June 11 and 12. The event is held by Mountain Bike Southwest, LLC. It is a race/festival held at the McGaffey Campgrounds in the Zuni Mountains, and it’s centered around a 24-hour mountain bike race.

Bush informed the committee that he anticipates selling all of the available tickets for the ride.

The Colt Balok show evolves; adds new segment ‘Game Changer’

In March 2020 the boy who grew up in Gallup was launching his first syndicated television show in New Mexico, Utah, Southern Colorado, Montana and Kansas [Gallup Sun, Vol. 6, Issue 260].

Now, the show has evolved. Balok and his team have created “The Game Changer.”

The Game Changer is a segment of “The Colt Balok Show,” which is currently airing as filler on the CABQ Network at this time. City of Albuquerque Media Resources Manager Diego Lucero told the Sun that there is no current contract with the show. But he indicated a contract for new material could be signed in the future.
