Scheduled water outage for June 26

A scheduled water outage that will affect parts of McKee Drive will take place on June 26 from 9 am to 5 pm.

The outage will affect City of Gallup residents in the following area:

  • 600 block of McKee Drive
The city's water department will be repairing a water line break in the area and will need to shut off the water in order to do their work safely.
Surrounding areas may experience low water pressure.

FBI seeks information about Ruidoso fires

The FBI is assisting New Mexico's local, state, federal and tribal partners in the ongoing investigation of the fires near Ruidoso, New Mexico. The South Fork Fire and Salt Fire were discovered on June 17. The FBI is asking for the public's assistance in identifying the cause of these fires.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for starting the fires.

Anyone who may have any information pertaining to the cause of the fires can call 1-800-CALL-FBI or go online at tips.fbi.gov. They can also text "BIAMMU" to 847411 then "MESCALERO FIRE + the tip" or just BIAMMU to 847411 and the tip.



Resources avaliable for those impacted by South Fork, Salt fires

SANTA FE — State, federal, local and county agencies are working together to provide resources to those impacted by the South Fork and Salt fires.

A state Disaster Recovery Center is now open at the Roswell Convention Center and will remain open seven days a week from 8 am to 6 pm. Residents can get connected to Disaster Case Management and receive help coordinating both short-term and long-term resources.

In addition to Disaster Case Management resources, the following state agencies will be at the center to provide help with the following:

NM State Forestry Division provides June 24 update on South Fork, Salt fires

RUIDOSO, N.M. — As of June 24, the South Fork Fire has burned over 17,500 acres, and the Salt Fire has burned almost 8,000.

According to a press release published by the New Mexico Forestry Division, 37% of the South Fork fire has been contained, while 7% of the Salt fire has been contained.

All evacuations have been lifted. Tribal members who have been displaced outside of the Mescalero Apache Reservation due to the fires are strongly encouraged to contact the tribe's Emergency Operations Center to help them and their families get back to the reservation. RUIDOSO, N.M. — As of June 23, the South Fork Fire has burned over 17,000 acres, and the Salt Fire has burned almost 8,000.

According to a press release published by the New Mexico Forestry Division, 31% of the South Fork fire has been contained, while 7% of the Salt fire has been contained.

Both fires started on June 17, and it is believed that both were started when mixed conifer, grass, and pine/juniper went up in flame.
