Grants High School students graduate in cars

GRANTS - COVID-19 has halted some aspects of daily life, but the pandemic was not going to stop graduation at a western New Mexico High School.

Grants High School in Cibola County hosted a “Drive Up Graduation” on May 15, on the school’s grounds with social distancing measures.

A few weeks prior to graduation, the school’s leaders started to brainstorm ideas to make graduation happen.

Flagstaff, Ariz.— Native American leaders, including Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez, Brooklyn, N.Y., Borough President Eric Adams, and renowned nutrition experts from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, are coming together on May 30 to help stop the spread of SARS-CoV-2 among Native Americans, boost immunity to viruses, and treat the chronic diseases that raise the risk of complications from the virus.

Community champions could be anyone you know or know about who stepped up to help in these trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Congressman Ben Ray Lujan, D-N.M. launched an intiative during the week of April 20 to shine a spotlight on New Mexicans serving their communities during this crisis.

Lujan says he’s been encouraged by stories of neighbors delivering groceries to the elderly and vulnerable, and groups like ‘Rosie the Respirators’ sewing masks for essential personnel.
