Aloni Herra and Violet DayChief, members of Gallup’s local Girl Scout Troop, received the Silver Award, the second highest award given by Girl Scouts of America for a special project to benefit pediatric patients. With the help of pediatrician, Dr. Michelle Stam-MacLaren, the girls created “Book Bags” for children who are admitted to the hospital and for their siblings. The bags contain reading books, coloring books, bookmarks and crayons. Due to COVID-19, Aloni and Violet have not been able to place the bags in the hospital. However, as soon as they get clearance, the girls will bring the bags to the Medical Surgical/Pediatrics Unit in the hospital for young patients at RMCHCS...

Rehoboth McKinley Christian Health Care Services has promoted Dylan Solomon, RN to the position of director of the Emergency Department.

Solomon first began working at RMCHCS in 2017 as a nurse in the Emergency Department.  In 2019, he took on the role of house supervisor.

Solomon has extensive experience as a basic and an intermediate medical technician. He also has experience serving as a lead supervisor, dispatcher, field research assistant and physician’s assistant.

In January 2020, Solomon received the Daisy Award in Nursing, a nationwide program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day.

This includes, but is not limited to, Alzheimer’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), concussion, epilepsy, migraine, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and stroke. A child, or pediatric, neurologist specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of neurologic disorders in children from the neonatal period through adolescence. Thanksgiving is a holiday defined by food. Even in the era of COVID, families find safe ways to gather around the table to enjoy a meal and recount what they are thankful for.

To that end, the Octavia Fellin Public Library hosted an interactive workshop with Chef Nephi Craig on Nov. 23. Craig spoke about Indigenous Food Sovereignty and prepared a dish on-line for viewers.

Craig, from the Fort River Apache Reservation near Whiteriver, Ariz., founded the Native American Culinary Association after graduating from culinary school in 2000. NACA is dedicated to the research, refinement, and development of Native American cuisine.
