2021 Ceremonial Embraces Tradition, Adds Virtual Dimension

The 99th Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial will have a very different look from previous years, reemerging from the COVID-19 pandemic as a hybrid event with live and virtual elements.

Details are still being finalized for some parts of the two-track event. The local Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial Association is handling live events, coming out of the chute Aug. 12 with rodeo events themed,  ‘We’re Buckin’ Back,’ a wine tasting, the juried art show and exhibit hall through Aug. 15 at Red Rock Park.

Born into privilege, Thomas More had a life of comfort and prestige laid out before him. He was heavily influenced by his devout mother and became a lawyer, although he always felt a pull toward the pious life, living adjacent to a monastery and even becoming a Third Order Franciscan. He was even known to wear a hair shirt (a shirt woven loosely of coarse hair to be intentionally uncomfortable) and conduct other acts of penance. He was a dedicated husband to his first wife. Gallup High School teacher wins ’Teacher of the Month’ as well as ‘Teacher of the Year’

Louella Manlegro, a special education teacher at Gallup High School, received the “Teacher of the Month” award from Camille’s Sidewalk Café in May. This month she is taking home the “Teacher of the Year” award.

Camille’s Sidewalk Café selected a teacher each month from January to May of 2021 to be recognized and celebrated from within the Gallup area. Nominees are selected based on votes from students and their families on how and why they feel their teacher deserves the award of “Teacher of the Month.”
