‘WHAT’S

RIGHTFULLY

HERS’

Gallup, Sept. 1

A woman is facing charges of robbery and trying to escape from the custody of a peace officer after she allegedly tried to steal money from a man.

On Sept. 1, around 3 pm, Gallup Police Officer Elijah Bowman was dispatched to the Albertsons grocery store at 1702 E. Hwy. 66 after a firefighter with the Gallup Fire Department called Metro Dispatch and said a fight had broken out.

When Bowman arrived at the scene he met with the firefighter, who said a woman, later identified as Alisa Becenti, 34, had begun fighting a man and hitting him with a cane. She allegedly left the scene heading east pushing a grocery cart.

Bowman found Becenti at the Dragon Express in the Zecca Plaza.

According to his report, Becenti told Bowman that a man had tried to steal money from her and that she’d twisted her knee during the altercation. After hearing her story Bowman placed Becenti in the back of his patrol car.

A witness approached Bowman and told him she’d seen Becenti push the man down on the ground and then allegedly reach into his pocket to steal his wallet.

When Bowman asked Becenti if she’d stolen any money, she said the man stole from her first, and that “she was just taking what was rightfully hers.”

Bowman arrested Becenti for robbery and for her outstanding warrants. Medical staff arrived at the scene to check on Becenti and transported her to a local hospital.

Becenti was eventually given a medical clearance, but before Bowman could transfer her to the McKinley County Adult Detention Center, he spoke to the medical staff who treated her. They told him that they saw Becenti throw a pipe into a restroom trash can.

Bowman reportedly checked the trash can and found a blue straw pipe. After checking the bathroom, he went back to Becenti’s room only to find her missing from the room. Medical staff allegedly told Bowman they’d seen Becenti running down the hall on the west side of the hospital.

He eventually found Becenti outside of the hospital, climbing down some rocks.

Bowman finally caught up to Becenti and detained her again. She was charged with robbery and escaping from a peace officer. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 25 in Gallup Magistrate Court.

CAUGHT WITH

FENTANYL

Gallup, Aug. 29

A man is facing drug charges after he was caught with fentanyl.

On Aug. 29 Gallup Police Narcotic Agents Timothy Hughte and Lionel Desiderio were on duty when they noticed three men sitting on the corner of Burke Drive and Highway 66. One of the men was eventually identified as Quinn Livingston.

According to Hughte’s report, he noticed Livingston, 32, put a jacket up over his head and allegedly try to ingest something off a piece of aluminum foil.

The officers approached the men, and they saw Livingston sit on the foil in what they believed to be an attempt at hiding it. They asked him to hand over the aluminum foil, and he complied. Hughte found a blue pill, which he identified as fentanyl, inside the foil.

Livingston was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and an unrelated warrant. The officers transported him to the McKinley County Adult Detention Center. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 25 in Gallup Magistrate Court.
