A fight at Dollar General led to one man, John Shirley, getting arrested.

On Jan. 20, around 8:30 pm, an employee of the Dollar General at 805 S. Second St. called the police when Shirley, 50, started fighting with another store employee. According to the report, the caller said that Shirley was using his keys as a weapon.

The store employee Shirley had gotten into a fight with told the officers that Shirley had come into the store earlier that night and told him he was going to come back and rob the store. He then proceeded to drive off, swerving on to Second Street.

A former New Mexico Taxation and Revenue employee was allegedly wiring tax refunds to his own bank accounts.


From 2009 through July 16, 2018, George Martinez, 46, of Albuquerque, used his position as the Unit Supervisor/Bureau Chief of the Questionable Refund Unit at the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department to fraudulently alter tax refunds and direct them to bank accounts that he controlled. Martinez perpetrated the fraud by copying tax returns that had already been processed or creating new returns in taxpayers’ accounts.

The Gallup Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in locating Jaylynn Miller.

She is a 17-yea-old female. She is 4 feet and 11 inches tall, and weighs about 109 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.

She was last seen at around 11 am  on Jan. 31 at the Cedar Hills Apartments in Gallup wearing a blue t-shirt, and unknown other clothing colors.

Gallup Police were recently able to identify the person who was found on the side of the road on the eastbound side of I-40, near mile marker 20. Acting Chief Erin Toadlena-Pablo. Toadlena-Pablo said the man was identified as Rashaundal Combs.

Combs, 39, was from Round Rock, Ariz. Someone driving by called the GPD around 10 am on Jan. 7 to report that there was a body on the side of the road.

According to Toadlena-Pablo-Pablo, Combs was hit by a motor vehicle, and his injuries possibly led to his death.

The GPD does not know if foul play was involved at this time. It is also unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.
