A woman was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance after she was caught smoking meth near City Hall.

On Feb. 7, around 2 pm, Gallup Police Officer Daniel Brown was driving westbound through the alleyway behind City Hall, 110 W. Aztec Ave., after receiving a dispatch message about possible drug activity. When he arrived at the scene he found Jessica Haley, 33, and a man crouched over in the stairwell. Haley was allegedly holding a glass pipe, and according to his report, Brown saw smoke coming from the stairwell.

Brown got out of his police car and asked the two people what they were doing. Haley said they were smoking cigarettes...

Gallup Police were notified of a vehicle with a driver passed out near a local business. The driver, Dwayne Cooke, 40, of Navajo, was eventually arrested and charged with his third DWI.

Officer Daniel Brown was on patrol when Metro Dispatch advised him of a tan Ford pickup truck parked at the intersection of North Seventh Street and Maloney Avenue with a driver who was reportedly “down and out.” Brown arrived at the scene and found the suspect vehicle on and running, blocking the northbound lane.

The storm that hit New Mexico and Arizona on the night of Feb. 22 led to many traffic problems, including closed roads and multiple accidents.

Arizona Department of Transportation closed down parts of I-40 around 6 pm on Feb. 22 and didn't reopen until 9:30 am.

McKinley County Sheriff James Maiorano III said that his jurisdiction responded to 10 crashes between the evening of Feb. 23 and the morning of Feb. 24. He said none of the crashes had any major injuries, only vehicle damages.

A 15-year-old boy was found dead after shots were fired at Ford Canyon Park.

Metro Dispatch received an emergency call about shots being fired at the park on Feb. 17, around 4:30 pm. Two people were allegedly seen running from the scene.

When officers arrived at the scene they found the 15-year-old injured with multiple gunshot wounds. The young man was transported to the local hospital where he later died.
