GFD responds to south side fire

In the early morning hours of April 27, Crew A of the Gallup Fire Department was dispatched to a facility on the south side of town after a report came in about a fire alarm going off. Upon arrival they met a key holder for the building who gave them to access to the inside. Upon entering, the firefighters found smoke inside of the building and the fire alarm system was showing a possible fire in the electrical room.

At the same time other crews were conducting a walk around of the building and found a fire on the outside of the building next to the wall. The buildings ventilation system had pulled the smoke into the building activating the fire alarm.

Gallup Police tracked a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run and eventually arrested the driver, Sheila Benally, 36, of St. Michaels, Ariz., and charged her with her third DWI.

Man leaves the scene of an accident after hitting vehicle

A man was charged with aggravated assault and a few other charges after he drove into another vehicle at a local gas station.

On March 30, around 8:15 pm, Gallup Police Officer Charlie Watkins was dispatched to a car crash at the Speedway gas station located at 2654 E. Hwy. 66.

When he arrived at the scene, he met with the woman who called Metro Dispatch. She explained that Jason Wilson, 29, had taken her pick-up truck without permission. She said she found him at the Duke City gas station, and that’s where he hit her car. The woman also said that Wilson is a drug user.

Man attacks Albertson’s security guard

A man who was reportedly “known for stealing” walked into a local grocery store and got into a fight with a security guard.

Gallup Police Officers Aaron Marquez and Gilbert Gonzales were dispatched to Albertsons, 1702 E. Hwy. 66, March 20 after a security guard called Metro Dispatch and said a man was walking around the store with a knife.

During the call, the security guard said the man, who was later identified as Jeremiah Nez, “is known for stealing.” He was reportedly walking around the store with a knife but was initially not threatening anyone with it.
