A black GMC Sierra collided with another vehicle in the lot of a local business, leading to Sophina Mae Brown, 42, of Gallup, being arrested and charged with her fourth DWI.

Gallup Officer Elijah Bowman was dispatched to Sports Page Lounge, 1400 S. Second St., after a call regarding the crash came into Metro Dispatch. Bowman arrived and met Officer Julio Yazzie, who was speaking with the driver, Brown, at the scene.

Pinedale woman sentenced to 37 months for fatal crash

A Pinedale woman who pled guilty to one count each of involuntary manslaughter and assault resulting in serious bodily injury was recently sentenced to 37 months in prison.

According to the plea agreement and other court records, on Oct. 14, 2017, Betrina Henry Grey, a member of the Navajo Nation, was driving while intoxicated when she lost control of her vehicle on State Road 118 near the Fort Wingate Army Depot turnoff on the Navajo Nation. As the vehicle rolled, two male passengers were ejected from the vehicle.  One man died on the scene, while the other man suffered a significant brain injury and was airlifted to a hospital for emergency care.

Zuni man pleads guilty to firearm offenses

A Zuni man recently pled guilty assault with a dangerous weapon, which resulted in serious bodily injury.

According to the plea agreement, on Sept. 18, 2022, while at the home of the victim, Nicholas Pinto, 24, and an enrolled member of the Pueblo of Zuni, started an argument with another guest at which point the victim asked him to leave. As Pinto left the residence, he told the victim that he would be “coming back.” Pinto returned to the victim's house later that day with a sawed-off shotgun and knocked on the front door.

When the victim answered, Pinto fired the shotgun at him with the intent to cause great bodily harm, striking him in the right leg. As the victim was laying...

Shiprock woman charged with involuntary manslaughter, assault

A woman from Shiprock, N.M. has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and assault after she reportedly crashed into another vehicle while she was driving drunk. She killed the mother in the other vehicle and injured a young man.

According to the indictment, Courtney Frank operated a motor vehicle on Sept. 28 without due caution and circumspection and with a wanton and reckless disregard for human life when she knew and should have known that her conduct imperiled the lives of others. Frank, 19, was allegedly driving drunk and  crashed her car head-on into a car driven by a mother and son, killing the mother and injuring the son.
