SANTA FE—The New Mexico Department of Transportation and local law enforcement agencies remind drivers to buckle up during the national annual Click it or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign which begins May 15. Law enforcement will be out looking for unrestrained drivers and passengers during a concentrated enforcement period May 22 through June 4, which coincides with the Memorial Day holiday.

“It should be a part of every driver’s routine,” Transportation Secretary Ricky Serna said. “You get in the vehicle, you buckle-up. It only takes a few seconds and it’s proven to help save lives."

Serna said he still couldn't believe some people still don't use seatbelts.

Aggravated DWI (Third)

A tan Pontiac Bonneville crashed into a metal guard near a local gas station, eventually leading to the driver, Ernest Clah, 36, of Gallup, being arrested for his third DWI.

Gallup Police Officer Christopher Dawes was dispatched to the Allsups store at 2857 W. Hwy. 66 after a call pertaining to the vehicle crash came into Metro Dispatch. Dawes arrived at the scene and found a vehicle matching the caller’s description with front end damage that also fit the description.

The Gallup Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating Belvina Harrison, 47.

Harrison is five feet tall and about 170 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.

She was last seen leaving her residence on the 3000 block of Blue Hill Avenue on foot on May 10. She was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt and gray or black pants.  She wears glasses and has a scar on her left thigh.

Two semi trucks crashed into each other this morning, causing a fire to break out on Interstate 40 near the 51 mile marker.

McKinley County Sheriff deputies responded to the crash around 4 am. They found one of the trucks completely engulfed in flames, and it was blocking both lanes of traffic.

In an interview with the Sun, McKinley County Sheriff James Maiorano III said that one of the truck drivers had gotten out of his truck to check on an issue with his lights when the second truck rear-ended his semi. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this accident. No injuries were reported.
