A caller advised Metro Dispatch a man had too much to drink and was driving, eventually leading to Victor Chee, 63, of Fort Wingate, being arrested for DWI.

Gallup Officer Daniel Brown was patrolling when he was advised by Metro Dispatch that an anonymous caller contacted them from Walmart at 1650 W. Maloney Ave. to say Chee had too much to drink and requested aid. Medstar staff were dispatched to Walmart, where they later requested police assistance after stating the suspect, Chee, was intoxicated and had left the scene westbound in a maroon Subaru Outback.

Vanderwagen man charged with involuntary manslaughter

ALBUQUERQUE – A man from Vanderwagen, N.M., has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after he reportedly hit two people with his car, killing them.

According to the indictment, on Oct. 2,  Sheldon Carlton Daye, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, allegedly hit and killed two people who were stopped on the shoulder of Highway 602, repairing a flat tire, near Bread Springs, N.M.  Daye, 29, was allegedly driving while under the influence at the time.

Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, announced that Daye was charged with involuntary manslaughter May 16...

Man flees scene of gas station hit-and-run

A man was recently arrested for hitting a woman’s car at a local gas station.

On May 6 around 11 pm, Gallup Police Officer Vincent Thompson responded to a call concerning a hit-and-run at Maverik at 3540 E. Hwy. 66.

When he arrived at the gas station, he met with the owner of a black Buick Regal. The woman said a man named Francis Shorty Jr. hit her car.

According to the victim, Shorty drove by the gas station in a black Nissan Titan on Highway 66 “saying all kinds of stuff.” He then reportedly turned on to Toltec Drive and started traveling southbound before turning around and pulling into the gas station parking lot.

DWI checkpoint crash injuries two women, NMSP officer

A drunk driver drove through a DWI checkpoint in Thoreau and hit a New Mexico State Police Officer's car, injuring an officer and two women.

According to a New Mexico State Police press release, Joshua Floehr, 35, of Bloomfield, N.M., was driving westbound on Highway 122 in a 2019 Mitsubishi SUV around 6:45 pm on May 19.

He appeoached the DWI checkpoint that NMSP had set up, and then reportedly drove right through it at a high rate of speed, hitting a NMSP officer's car and pushing it into another officer’s unit before coming to a stop. Two women, ages 49 and 34, along with a NMSP officer, were standing by the car  and were struck Floehr crashed into them.
