A Mexican Springs woman, Starla Silversmith, 40, was pulled over for speeding but was eventually arrested for her third DWI.

McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Terence Willie was driving westbound on Highway 264 when he saw a blue Chevrolet Malibu driving eastbound at a reported speed of 64 mph in a 55-mph zone. The Caprice passed another vehicle before merging onto U.S. Highway 491, where Willie followed.

Silver Alert for Gallup Police Department - Dennis Charley

The Gallup Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating Dennis Charley, 69.

He is 5 feet and 2 inches tall, weighing about 130 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair.

He was last seen wearing a blue shirt with a long sleeve shirt underneath it, faded green camo pants, and black shoes. He was last seen on June 1, around 11:30 am at the Bonney Family Home. It is unknown where he was heading.

Dennis reportedly does not know the Gallup area and does not know his way around. He has also been diagnosed with dementia and only speaks the Navajo language. He is originally from Chinle, Ariz.

Fatal crash in McKinley County

A two-vehicle crash killed one man May 29.

Around 9:30 pm that night, were called to a scene involving two vehicles on State Road 118, west of Gallup.

According to a press release, a 1998 Dodge pickup truck, driven by Gregory Bradfield, 44, of Wichita, Kan., was traveling westbound on the road  around mile marker 14.  Bradfield attempted to pass a vehicle in front of him and in doing so, crashed head on into a 2006 GMC pickup truck that was driving eastbound. The crash caused the Dodge truck to roll over. Bradfield was declared dead at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.

The driver of the GMC truck was transported to an area hospital. Their condition is unknown...

GFD responds to two dumpster fires over Memorial Day weekend

The Gallup Fire Department responded to two dumpster fires the morning of May 28.

First, the fire department was dispatched to the south side of town. When they arrived at the scene, they found a dumpster with an active fire in it. They deployed a hoseline and extinguished the fire.

Whille on the scene of that fire, the crew received another call, this time from the Gallup Police Department. The GPD reported a second dumpster with smoke coming out of it at a nearby business. A crew of firefighters also distinguished that fire.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fires are under investigation.
