A vehicle crash left a Gallup man, Austin Evans, 25, with minor injuries and a third DWI charge.

Gallup Officer Elijah Bowman was dispatched to 1414 S. Grandview Dr. after a caller advised Metro Dispatch they saw a gray truck collide with another vehicle at the scene. Bowman arrived and found a Ford Escape in the roadway facing south with heavy front-end damage.

Bowman met Officer Julio Yazzie, who said the vehicle’s driver, Evans, was reportedly refusing treatment from Medstar staff. Bowman heard Evans speaking at the scene, where he showed signs of intoxication including slurred speech and bloodshot...

Man assaults gas station employee

A man allegedly attacked a Speedway employee when he believed the man was rude to him.

On July 20, around 5:45 am, Gallup Police Officer Ryan Boucher was dispatched to the Speedway at 2654 E. Hwy. 66 after a fight broke out at the gas station. The caller said that four or five men were fighting outside the store. One of those men was later identified as Andrew Martin.

When Boucher arrived at the gas station he met with one of the Speedway employees, who said that he had gotten into a fight with Martin, 23, earlier that day, and he had come back to the gas station “for revenge.”

A Smith Lake driver, Marcia Whitehorse, 39, tried to pass through a DWI Task Force checkpoint and ended up being arrested and charged with her third DWI.

New Mexico State Police Officer Joe Roanhorse was working a McKinley County Task Force Checkpoint near mile marker 5.5 of Highway 371 in Thoreau. A white Toyota Yaris pulled into the checkpoint, and when Roanhorse went to speak to the driver he reportedly noticed the odor of an intoxicating liquor in the vehicle.

Gallup planning for safe parades

Public safety is a top priority for City of Gallup staff as the community prepares for hosting the 101st Gallup Inter-Tribal Ceremonial. City staff are working closely with partners in law enforcement and the Inter-Tribal organization to implement a safety plan for the parades and events across the community.

The Inter-Tribal parades will take place at two different times: 7 pm on Aug. 10 and 10 am on Aug. 12.
