Shiprock man sentenced to 12 years in prison for abusive sexual contact of a minor

A man from Shiprock, New Mexico is facing up to 12 years in prison for abusive sexual contact of a minor and possession of child pornography.

According to court documents, in the fall of 2019, Allan Wilson engaged in abusive sexual contact with a minor while she was spending the night in the home Wilson, 64, shared with his sister on the Navajo Nation. The victim, who is a member of the Navajo Nation, was less than 12 years old at the time.

The Gallup Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating Brian Lee Jr.

Lee is 14 years old, and is about five feet and eight inches tall. He weighs about 128 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a dark gray Polo shirt and black jeans. He may be carrying a backpack.

Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Brian Lee Jr. is asked to call Metro at 505) 722-2002 and reference case #23-30236.


Shots fired at Red Rock Park during Ceremonial events

Shots were fired at Red Rock Park during the Gallup InterTribal Ceremonial celebration.

Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene during the evening of Aug. 11 after reports came in about shots being fired in the area. The Navajo Police and the McKinley County Sheriff's Deputies detained two suspects at a nearby residence. No injuries have been reported.

The Navajo Police later confirmed that the incident involved two individuals that reportedly shot a firearm over 1/4 mile west of the park on tribal land.

Based on evidence found at the scene, the individuals were target shooting on their property. The Navajo Police are investigating whether that activity was lawful or not...

Smith Lake man pleads guilty to second degree murder

A Smith Lake man who is an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation pled guilty to charges of second degree murder after he reportedly shot and killed a man.

According to court documents, Josiah Alan Smith, 29,  shot and killed a man at a home near Church Rock on the Nation on May 17, 2021. Smith, who had arrived at the residence earlier in the day, allegedly fired into a window from outside the home, hitting the victim in the back and killing him.

The FBI, with the assistance of the McKinley County Sheriff's Office and Gallup Police Department, arrested Smith in Gamerco on Aug. 21, 2021.
