The Gallup Police Department is asking for people's help in locating Miley Shorty, 14.

Miley is five feet and two inches tall and about 120 pounds. She has brown eyes and brown hair.

Beer by the dozen stolen from restaurant

A man tried to steal 43 beers from a local restaurant.

On July 31, around 5:15 am, Gallup Police officers were dispatched to La Barraca, 1303 E. Hwy. 66, after someone allegedly broke into the Mexican restaurant.

According to his report, Officer Patrick Largo noticed that the glass on the restaurant’s front door was shattered when he arrived at the scene. There was enough space now for a person to have crawled through the broken door.

The officers met with one of the restaurant’s employees, who said the restaurant’s owners were on their way. The employee said he showed up to work that morning and noticed that the front door was shattered. He also noticed several beer bottles...

Vanderwagen man charged with abduction, battery

A Vanderwagen man named Calvin Johnson has been charged with battery after he attacked a woman who was just trying to fill her car up with gas.

On July 21 around 9:30 am, McKinley County Sheriff’s Deputy Paul Davis was dispatched to a house on Coal Basin Road after a woman reportedly showed up to the house claiming she had been abducted.

When Davis met with the 19-year-old victim, she told him that her car ran out of gas on State Road 118 and Armand Ortega Boulevard near the Allsups Store. A man who was later identified as 35-year-old Johnson stopped and asked the woman if she needed help.

Woman steals over $800 from Walmart

A Gallup woman was arrested after she stole a multitude of everyday household items from a local Walmart.

On Aug. 4, around 7:30 am, Gallup Police Officer Vincent Thompson was dispatched to the Walmart at 1650 W. Maloney Ave. Metro Dispatch told Thompson that the suspect, a woman who was later identified as Nariah Garcia, was wearing a black top, camouflage pants, white shoes, and a pink hat.

According to his report, Thompson found Garcia, 23, at the Rio West Mall entrance. He allegedly saw three full bags in a Walmart cart. Garcia said she’d bought the items at Walmart, but that she’d lost the receipt.

Tohatchi man sentenced to 20 years in prision for sexual abuse of a minor

A Tohatchi man has been charged with sexual abuse of a minor after he allegedly sexually abused three minors.

According to court documents, Bryon Yazzie Jr., 22, sexually abused three minor victims between August and November of 2020. He was 19 years old at the time.

Yazzie allegedly met the first victim, a minor who was between the ages of 12 and 16,  through Facebook and began a sexual relationship with them sometime in August. On Oct. 20, 2020, Yazzie engaged in a sexual act with a second victim.
