A man from Yahtahey was charged with aggravated assault after he threatened a couple with a knife.

On Sept. 20, around 1 pm, Gallup Police Officer Julio Yazzie was dispatched to the Busy Bee Laundromat at 2010 E. Hwy. 66 after being advised that a man, who was later identified as Christopher Nez, tried to take money from a couple by holding them at knifepoint.

When Yazzie met with the couple, they said they’d been sitting by the batting cages on Aztec Avenue when Nez, 36, approached them with a knife. Standing Rock man sentenced to 17 years in prison for sexual assault

A man named Brandon Yazzie has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for abusive sexual contact.

According to court records, the FBI received a referral from the City of Avondale Police Department from Avondale, Ariz. Sept. 22, 2021. The referral documented the sexual assault of a minor who was under 12 years old at the time. The referral claimed that 30-year-old Yazzie, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, reportedly assaulted the young girl on multiple occasions between December 2020 and January 2021 at Yazzie’s residence in Standing Rock, N.M. Specifically, Yazzie engaged in sexual contact with the victim and afterward, told her “this never happened” with the intent that...

Navajo Police to receive new police vehicles

PHOENIX — The Navajo Police are going to receive 70 new vehicles in the next 18 months.

The Office of the President and Vice President Chief of Staff Patrick Sandoval and Navajo Nation Director of Public Safety recently inspected the first 22 police vehicles that are being prepared for delivery to the Navajo Nation.

“They’re beautiful and almost ready to get here,” Sandoval said. “The vehicles that are about to be replaced have more than 220,000 miles. We generally have to replace them at a higher mileage because of the supply and shipping bottleneck that was created by the pandemic.”

One person transported to hospital after two-vehicle collision

Gallup Fire Department crews were alert to respond to a call early Sept. 28.

In a Facebook post, GFD stated Crew C responded and traveled to the intersection of Highway 66 and Ford Drive after they were advised of a vehicle collision that resulted in an unknown number of injuries.

When the crew arrived at the scene, they found two vehicles that were involved with the crash, both of which reportedly sustained minor to moderate damage.

One person from the collision was transported to a local hospital by a MedStar ambulance. The crash investigation is ongoing with no further details available at press time.
