Hotel thieves apprehended

A man staying at the Econo Lodge on 3101 West Hwy 66 got a lucky break when Gallup Police Department officers caught up with thieves that had broken into his red Dodge pick up and stole some items on Jan. 18.

Yatahey couple home robbed, car stolen

YATAHEY– A couple experienced a catastrophic loss Jan. 12 in the form of material possessions. Stolen from the home of James and Elaine Henderson was more than $18,000 worth of reported belongings, along with the theft of their gun metal blue Chrysler 300C, with an estimated worth of about $35,000.

Jewelry, a Stetson hat, Navajo baskets, firearms, clothing, and expensive liquor, including an engraved bottle labeled “The Senator’s Whisky,” were among some of the many items listed as stolen in McKinley County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Nacona Clark’s report.

A neighbor saw two suspects moving stuff out of the home, prompting him to call police.

Triple drug possession bust

What began as an attempt to arrest David Gabaldon for an outstanding warrant, resulted in a mini drug bust of Gabaldon and two of his friends Jan. 13.

But not without chase.

McKinley County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Johnson Lee and another deputy went to 210 E. Princeton to try and make contact with Amanda Quintana, a wanted felon who was known to stay at the residence. They made contact with Gabaldon, however, and confirmed that he had a warrant for his arrest. He fled before police could get him in handcuffs.

Lee would return to the scene later to finish what he started. So, he kept his eye on a car that peaked his interest for good reason.

MOO-ney STOLEN

1/15, GALLUP

Cowtown Feed & Livestock owner Dudley Byerley may have a dishonest employee, or two, according to McKinley County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Nacona Clark’s report. Byerley said that he placed $550.50 in the register, but didn’t lock it. The alleged theft occurred when Byerley and some other workers were outside of the store loading cattle.

When he returned inside to get money for gas, there was $200 missing from the till. David Willie, Jr. and Lloyd Lee were named as suspects as they were in the store for a period of time as Byerley loaded cattle. The report doesn’t state whether the money was located. Gallup Police Department Jessie Diaz arrested Silva for DWI. Diaz’ reports states that Silva told him that he had drank “Bud Lights.” Silva, 40, blew a .14 and .15 during the alcohol breath test.

Reports of reckless driving on State Highway 602 narrowed down the search for McKinley County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Johnson Lee. Lee pulled him over in the parking lot of the Family Dollar store on south Second Street. Boyd, 23, blew a .19 and .18 during the breath tests.
