Westbound on Wilson Avenue near Andy’s Trading Company, 612 Wilson Ave., while attempting to find suspects involved in a fight at the Third Street Tavern, Gallup Police Department Officer Ryan Blackgoat noticed a bystander waving. Blackgoat pulled over and noticed that the bystander, who smelled strongly of alcohol, was peeing.

When Blackgoat asked Leroy Bitsie, 33, to sit in his police unit, Bitsie refused and “stood there still in a[n] aggressive fighting stance at me.”

Man arrested for alleged assault on federal officer

Larry Emerson Jr., 36, was arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 3 for allegedly assaulting a federal law enforcement officer on the Navajo Reservation.

The FBI apprehended Emerson in Gallup, New Mexico, with the assistance of the McKinley County Sheriff’s Office and Gallup Police Department.Emerson is accused of assaulting a Bureau of Indian Affairs-commissioned Navajo Police Officer in Shiprock, New Mexico, on July 6.

Emerson, of Newcomb, New Mexico, is expected to have an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque on Thursday.

 

Cibola County man pleads guilty to federal bank robbery charge

ALBUQUERQUE – Daniel Albert Chavez, 53, of Acoma, N.M., pled guilty today in federal court in Albuquerque, N.M., to robbing a Wells Fargo Bank branch in Grants, N.M.
Chavez was arrested on March 29, 2016, on an indictment charging him with robbing two banks in Cibola County, N.M.

According to the indictment, Chavez robbed the Bank of New Mexico branch located at 824 West Santa Fe Ave. in Grants on Feb. 20, 2015, and the Wells Fargo Bank branch located at 201 North First St. in Grants on Oct. 20, 2015.

During today’s plea hearing, Chavez pled guilty to one bank robbery charge, and admitted robbing the Wells Fargo Bank located at 201 North First St. in Grants, on Oct. 20, 2015.

Suspect jailed on $5K bond

A Gallup man arrested July 16 on an outstanding bench warrant remained jailed July 30 on battery on a peace officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct charges, according to a police report.

Adrian Chavez, 30, was seen walking along West Jefferson Avenue by Gallup Police Department Officer Dan Brown. Brown noted in the report that he recognized Chavez as a person who was wanted on an outstanding bench warrant.

“He told me that he was not going to jail,” Brown recorded in the report.
