Rehoboth McKinley Christian Hospital has officially cut ties with Community Health Corporation. Their contract with the Texas-based hospital management company formally ended on May 2.

RMCHC’s agreement with CHC was for a five-year period, with what’s called a three-year window. At the three-year mark, either party in the agreement could notify the other of its intent to end the agreement. The hospital board notified CHC of their intent to end the agreement in October.

Candidates aim to strengthen county’s voice


Patty Lundstrom has been the House Representative for District 9 since 2003, and she is hoping to keep her seat on the Legislative once again during the 2024 election.

But two other Democrats have hopes of taking their turn on the legislative floor: Christopher Hud-son and Arval McCabe. The primary election will be held on June 4, and the general election will take place on Nov. 5.

Roadwork to begin on I-40

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) District Six along with Albuquerque Asphalt, Inc. (Contractor) will begin mill and inlay work on Interstate 40 between Gallup and Thoreau.

Beginning May 10, work will begin at various locations on eastbound and westbound I-40 between mile marker 26.0 and 54.7.

The contractor’s work hours are 6:30 am to 8 pm Monday through Friday.  Drivers should expect minor delays and plan travel accordingly.  All work is expected to be complete by the end of May.

Noxious fumes, explosion danger close I-40


LUPTON, Ariz. — A BNSF train carrying liquid petroleum gas (propane) derailed, creating an explosion at the Arizona/New Mexico border April 26. Flames from the two railcars nearly engulfed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 shortly before 1 pm.

McKinley County Sheriff James Maiorano III said the highway was shut down for 54 hours, causing traffic delays and bottleneck traffic along rural byways.

The westbound train derailed on both sides of the border, bringing together a multitude of law enforcement agencies and firefighters. No injuries were reported.
