RUIDOSO, N.M. — As of June 24, the South Fork Fire has burned over 17,500 acres, and the Salt Fire has burned almost 8,000.

According to a press release published by the New Mexico Forestry Division, 37% of the South Fork fire has been contained, while 7% of the Salt fire has been contained.

All evacuations have been lifted. Tribal members who have been displaced outside of the Mescalero Apache Reservation due to the fires are strongly encouraged to contact the tribe's Emergency Operations Center to help them and their families get back to the reservation. Call the EOC at (575) 464-9214 for more details.

A South Fork Fire Emergency Closure Order was issued on June 20 for national forest lands within the Smokey Bear Ranger District. The identified areas, and roads and trails therein, are closed to public access to provide enhanced safety of firefighting personnel and the public.
