Leger Fernández introduces bill to help New Mexicans build financial literacy skills

WASHINGTON D.C. — Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernández reintroduced the Financial Fitness Act on June 4. The bill will create a public personal finance education portal on the Department of Education website to help students and families grow their financial literacy skills and better prepare for their future.

“Students and families face substantial and difficult financial decisions when they choose to pursue higher education," Leger Fernández said. "Students of color and low-income students tend to carry the heaviest burden when it comes to paying for college. We must give students and families the tools to make the best financial decisions possible."

Governor issues statement on Biden's executive order to secure the border

WASHINGTON D.C.  — U.S. President Joe Biden announced new measures to secure the U.S.'s Southern border on June 4. There new Executive Order bars migrants who cross unlawfully from receiving asylum.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham issued the following statement after Biden's announcement:

Summer Indian Dances returns to Courthouse Square

Gallup’s famed Summer Indian Dances are returning to the Courthouse Square in Historic Downtown Gallup.

The program will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between June 4 and Aug. 29 at the Courthouse Square, located at 215 W. Aztec Avenue. Dances will not be held on July 4 or Aug. 8, to avoid conflicts with the July 4 Stars and Stripes Celebration and Gallup Inter-Tribal Ceremonial activities, respectively. All dances are open to the public with free admission.

'Tan Pants Bandit' strikes again

The FBI and Rio Rancho Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance to identify the "Tan/Gray Pants Bandit," who is wanted for multiple bank robberies in the Rio Rancho and surrounding area. He robbed the Washington Federal Bank, 2518 Southern Blvd SE Rio Rancho, at approximately 4:25 pm on May 3.

The suspect has been described as a white man who is approximately five feet and seven inches tall with a stocky build. He was last seen wearing a blue hat, a black face mask, a black long sleeve shirt, grey skinny pants, and glasses.
