Print

In an email sent to the Sun on Oct. 13, the McKinley County Sheriff's Office provided an update about where they are in their attempts to identify the human remains that were discovered on Nov. 17, 2021.

Very few bones were recovered, but what MCSO reported was that the remains are from a man who was either Native American, Hispanic, or Asian. The man is believed to have been anywhere from 5' 2" to 6'.

The unidentified man had major head surgery to the right side of the head and was left with surgical steel on the skull.   According to the Office of the Medical Investigator, the wound was about six weeks into the healing stage.

MCSO is asking for the public's help in trying to identify who this man is. If anyone has information about a missing person who had a major head wound, contact Chief Investigator Anthony Ashley at MCSO at (505) 863-1410.
