What started out as a wellness check eventually turned into a drug charge for one Gallup woman when meth was found in her bra.

Gallup Police Officers Luke Martin, Cindy Romancito, and Julio Yazzie responded to a wellness check at the Ranchito Motel, 1009 West Coal Ave., around 4:47 pm on Feb. 22.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they met a woman who said she was concerned for her sister-in-law. She said her sister-in-law was threatening to commit suicide. She also mentioned that the woman may have a warrant out for her arrest.

The officers met the woman, Clarinda Boone, 42, of Gallup, in room 103 of the motel. In Martin’s report, he notes that Boone was cooperative. She said she wasn’t suicidal, and that she didn’t need any medical attention.

Metro Dispatch told Martin that Boone had a warrant out for her arrest. Romancito patted Boone down but didn’t find any drugs or weapons on her. She was handcuffed and placed under arrest for the warrant before being taken to the McKinley County Adult Detention Center.

At around 5:59 pm staff at the Adult Detention Center told Martin that contraband had been found on Boone. He met with McKinley County Adult Detention Center Correction Officer Gabrielle Delgarito who told him she had found a plastic baggie filled with a white substance in Boone’s bra.

The white substance ended up being meth, and Boone was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Boone’s preliminary examination was on March 9.
