Gallup Police Chief Franklin Boyd is retiring.

After 24 years and 10 months as of service, Boyd's last day will be Jan. 20.

Captain Erin Toadlena-Pablo will be Acting Chief of Police and Captain Billy Padavich will be Acting Deputy Chief of Police until such time as a new Police Chief is hired.

“It was an extreme honor for me to serve as your Chief of Police," Boyd said in a press release published on Jan. 19. "This is a great Department because of all the hard work, devotion to duty, and dedication of all the officers and support staff of the Gallup Police Department."

Boyd continued to hank the city officials he worked with.

I would like to thank the City of Gallup, mayor, city councilors, and other city employees who supported me and the department from the time I was initially appointed the Acting Chief (2017), Interim Chief, and finally the Chief of Police," Boyd said.

He also thanked Toadlena-Pablo and Padavich.

I would be remiss if I did not point out the real driving force behind all of the successful endeavors and the outstanding command staff leadership of the Gallup Police Department if I did not mention Captain Erin Toadlena-Pablo and Captain Billy Padavich," he said. This department can only continue to get better with their continued leadership and institutional knowledge. They have more than proven their dedication and commitment to the City of Gallup and the Gallup Police Department with over 40 years of combined experience!"

He concluded his statement by expressing his gratitude.

"I am truly thankful to the City of Gallup for all that it has given me. I have always felt supported in this role and for that I am eternally grateful," he said.
