Local youths take home medals for excellence in Judo

Teams from Albuquerque, Phoenix, Tucson, Utah, El Paso, Mexico, and Gallup competed in the 2016 N.M. State Judo Games on July 1-2 at Albuquerque Prep School, sweeping up medals during the two day competition.

The decision to attend college is a timely one, especially if you’re going there to play sports. Most places prefer prospective student athletes to sign letters-of-intent. Rare is it for schools to hold a spot for someone who has missed a signing deadline or has had a delay in their decision.

That was the case with Rough Rock High School’s Lakota Curley who’ll go to St. Augustine University in Raleigh, NC, next year as a walk-on basketball player with the Lady Falcons. Curley also played volleyball as a student at Rough Rock.

Gallup High Bengal girls dance team hosts Summer Dance Camp

It is billed as a ‘Kiddie Camp’ but the annual Gallup High School Bengal Girls Summer Dance Camp has provided lots of experience and fun for girls, and a couple of boys, ranging in age from kindergarten to high school.

Coaches for the three-day camp, which began on June 13, are the ladies of the award-winning Gallup High Bengal Girls Dance Team, who do an absolutely great job handling all the energy brought to the gym floor by these youngsters. Kristy Tiley is the coach of the GHS team and has directed and choreographed her girls to a multitude of awards over the years past.

West was superstar in softball, soccer, basketball

Sometimes you just have to travel far to accomplish things in life. The distance takes one away from family and friends, but everything works out in the long run.

That was the mindset June 17, when Rehoboth Christian High School’s Tyra West selected Ohio Valley University to attend college, come fall.. West signed a letter-of-intent to play soccer and softball at OVU.
