WASHINGTON D.C. — With the United Nations Climate Week set to kick off this weekend, it’s unclear whether Vice President Kamala Harris will be attending. Since becoming the Democratic Nominee for President, Harris has reversed herself on key energy positions such as fracking, electric vehicle mandates, and single-use plastics. These new positions would normally put her at odds with supporters during Climate Week. Historically, Harris has attended international climate conferences, including December’s UN’s COP28 where she pledged $3 billion in taxpayer dollars to support the climate agenda.

Heinrich highlights importance of IVF in New Mexico

WASHINGTON D.C. — U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., released the following statement after Senate Republicans once again blocked the passage of the Right to IVF Act on Sept. 17. Heinrich introduced the legislation as an original cosponsor to establish a nationwide right to in-vitro fertilization and other assisted reproductive technology. The legislation would also lower the costs of IVF treatment for millions of families, veterans, and service members.

Census data shows New Mexico's anti-poverty policies working for kids

ALBUQUERQUE — For the first time, the U.S. Census Bureau released a state-level child poverty measurement the week of Sept. 9 that shows anti-poverty policies enacted in New Mexico made an enormous difference for children over the period from 2021-2023. While New Mexico ranks last in the nation under the official poverty measure for child poverty, with a rate of 27.4%, when anti-poverty programs are taken into account under the supplemental poverty measure, the child poverty rate improves dramatically to just 8.9%, ranking the state 22nd in the nation.
