The A-Team meeting on Jan. 22 at the ole 2nd Street Fire Station was very informative for those in attendance. Every veteran is welcome to attend these mostly administrative gatherings.

The main topic of the discussion on this day was the ability of veterans to take better care of themselves. Some do, but the majority doesn’t. One tool developed by the VA is MyHealthyVet.com, a program designed to develop a baseline for the vet, and a permanent record of contacts with the VA. The state now has the highest rate of child poverty in the nation, according to the 2015 New Mexico KIDS COUNT report, which is set for release at a press conference this morning. While child poverty is down slightly—from 31 percent in 2013 to 30 percent in 2014—other states have seen bigger improvements in child poverty, leaving New Mexico dead last in this indicator.

“Child poverty is at the root of all of New Mexico’s poor outcomes for children,” said Amber Wallin, MPA, KIDS COUNT director of...

On January 24, we’ll experience a full moon. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, some Native American cultures refer to this as the Wolf’s Moon. Legend claims this is a time when hungry wolves come out to wail at the moon. Madame G suggests releasing some tension. You don’t need to wail at the moon just hit a pillow. It won’t do any good, but you might feel better.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Are your efforts working against you? Perhaps you’re running uphill on a treadmill with a bolder. You may even feel like howling at the moon. It won’t do any good. It may relieve some stress and make you feel better for a short time, but it’s not permanent. Work on meaningful...
