The Sept. 11, 2001 American tragedy that shook the nation to its core and changed our course forever is still felt even after 17 years; for many, healing has never taken place and every year the hurt is relived on this Day of Infamy. The question of why and how this happened has been pinned on terrorists from the very beginning with the information televised by the national media although other questions have remained unanswered.

Never before has there been a field of eighteen (18) candidates contending for the seat of the Navajo Nation president until this election cycle 2018; a historic precedent that has been set which speaks to the leadership that is available to serve our great nation.
Even more impressive is the number of women who stepped up to the challenge and took the initiative to set high standards for the Dine’ (Navajo) Nation, a matriarchal society. The biggest disappointment is the failure by both front-runners to have chosen a one as a vice-presidential running mate.

Have stopped in Gallup numerous times in past 15-plus years and always enjoyed many aspects of your town.
For first time, stayed at Microtel hotel and found this statue in foyer. Very much enjoyed the hotel, until noticed this “subliminal stereotype” in AM! If noted checking in, would have canceled! Offensive? Like having Abraham Lincoln’s selling alcohol?
Have registered complaint with Wyndham. Sent pic to Navajo Nation.
AND in GALLUP, depending on Native American tourism, what message does Chief send?

Letter to the Editor: Respect natural habitats, sacred sites
Editor,Gallup, New Mexico, called “Nanizhozhi” in Dine’ (Navajo), is indeed a “crossing point” that all roads lead to and where a rainbow of cultures live and thrive. Obviously, it places an emphasis on the Native American culture and settings in just about every aspect that can produce a profit in the “Indian Capital of the World”.
One of the attractions that Gallup has marketed is the trails that lead into the nearby Red Rock mountains, of which the City takes absolutely zero responsibility for when it advertises the scenic paths and are now littered with trash left behind by the visitors who traverse the trails.
