‘Keeping Up with the Joneses’ isn’t all that necessary

Rating: «« out of 4 stars

Running Time: 101 min.

Once again, what is funny to some is certainly not to others. A couple of weeks back, I saw a Zach Galifianakis comedy that I got a kick of out... it was strange, surreal, and brought a smile to my face. Less than a month later, he’s back in a completely different type...

‘Jack Reacher: Never Go Back’ is simply unremarkable

Rating: «« out of 4 stars

Running Time: 118 min.

To be honest, I wasn’t that big a fan of Tom Cruise’s first foray as Jack Reacher, a tough-as-nails ex-Major who can’t help but find trouble wherever he wanders. Frankly, I can’t remember much about that movie, other than some particularly stiff, hard-boiled dialogue between the characters that just didn’t play.

Regardless, a new thriller has arrived in the form of Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. It corrects a few of the issues I had with the previous installment and replaces them with new problems.

The story finds Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise) stopping various crimes while traveling across the country to meet Major Susan Turner...

After learning that the Mad Hatter is in a near-death state, Alice returns to Wonderland where she attempts to help her friend and other residents by turning back time. While a few appreciated the darker tone, notices were generally poor for this follow-up. It...

‘The Accountant’ doesn’t add up

Rating: «« out of 4 stars

Running Time: 128 min.

I wonder who exactly thought that it would be a grand idea to title an action/thriller The Accountant? Heck, even something as unexceptional as The Reckoning would be slightly snappier (and is a bookkeeping term, to boot).

The chosen title doesn’t exactly get the blood pumping, even when the film in question is undoubtedly intended to excite viewers. Yet in a strange way, I suppose the moniker is appropriate. As hard as the talented cast and crew try to add a few twists and create something unique, the end result can’t help but feel a bit stiff and generic.

Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) is a brilliant freelance accountant who...

Beep: A Documentary History of Game Sound - Like video games? Seems like you’d better if you want to appreciate this non-fiction effort. Over the two-hour running time, the filmmakers trace the history of music and sound in games, starting all the way back in Victorian penny arcades and following it through the decades to modern times. It also features interviews with composers and...
