Judge: Hooper must serve probationary term

The former corrections officer who was charged in April 2016 with smuggling contraband into the McKinley County Adult Detention Center received an 18-month prison sentence Nov. 21. A judge ordered that part of the sentence suspended, and Terrance Hooper must serve that same amount of time on supervised probation.

JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER ASSAULTS

12/9, 12/12, GALLUP

12/9: Alejandro Bustillos, a 15-year-old inmate at the JDC allegedly hit correction officer Jasper Willie in the face. According to McKinley County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Christopher Tsosie’s report, the assault occurred while Willie escorted 13 inmates indoors after some recreational time in the yard.

Bustillos reportedly started arguing with inmate Christopher Jim. When he got between the two, Bustillos hit Willie in the right ear.  The report has been sent to the District Attorney’s office for review.

Smiley had reportedly hit another vehicle at Goodfella’s and fled the scene, according to McKinley County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Arnold J. Noriega’s report. But, the calling party wasn’t about to let him get away and proceeded to follow Smiley on to I-40 westbound.

The calling party was trailing the suspect in a white Buick with its hazard lights turned on, making it easy for Noriega to catch up with Smiley who was driving a gold Ford F-150. MCSO: Forkner on the lam; absconded sex offender

The Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit of the McKinley County Sheriff’s Office is looking for an apparent absconder. A warrant has been issued on the matter, officials said.

Alex Forkner, 32, of Gamerco, was convicted of criminal sexual penetration in 2005, and as of late has not checked in with the McKinley County Sex Offender’s Division as required by sex offenders.

Judith Grijalva, the sex offender compliance officer with the MCSO, said Forkner must notify the sheriff’s office anytime there is a change of address. Not doing so is considered a violation of the law and is considered a fourth degree felony and punishable by jail time, she said.

Ft. Defiance man assaults police officer, jailed,

A FORT DEFIANCE, Ariz., man was jailed on assault and DWI charges and later bonded out after serving a couple days behind bars and paying a bond, jail records show.

James Miles III was taken into custody Nov. 16 by officers from the Gallup Police Department when he became unruly with Gallup police detective John Yearly.

According to a police report, Miles attempted to flee the scene after he hit someone with his vehicle. Miles, 26, was being restrained near Third Street and Maloney Avenue by Yearly and three other men when Gallup officer Jeremy Shirley arrived on the scene.
