VILLAGE OF MILAN– From the first smile of KendalBen’s manager John, you become aware there is something positive and new about the dining experience available at KendalBen Barbeque in Milan.

KendalBen’s serves food such as a lightly smoked Bison Burger, which might be surprising to find in Albuquerque much less a village next to Grants with 4,000 inhabitants. KendalBen’s is owned by Kendal Cash who also serves as one of two chefs. KendalBen is Cash’s nickname.

As you enter the restaurant you see an interesting mix of old and new. Traditional barbeque fans are greeted by a wall made partly of planks of weathered wood.

Teens get a wellness conference of their own

The Navajo Health Education Program, and co-sponsor  Manuelito Chapter House, will present the, 2015 TEEN Wellness conference, Tuesday, July 28, at the Manuelito Chapter House.

This is a FREE event for all area teens. The conference takes place from 9 am – 3:30 pm, with registration beginning at 8:30 am.

The wellness conferences’ presentations include:

“Meth Awareness & Prevention”, “Negative Effects of Alcohol on the CNS(central nervous system),” “Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder,”and “Let’s make positive choices.”

Area organizations will also be on hand: MSPI(Meth Suicide Preventative Initiative), DWI Program and Juvenile Substance Abuse Crisis...

Junior Public Safety Academy July 20-24th

Sixty-nine youths between the ages of eight and 18 got to enjoy a week filled with activities that emergency responders go through when training as new recruits. This challenging and innovative learning environment inspires children to achieve academic and fitness excellence.

The Junior Public Safety Academy headed by UNM-Gallup is a joint venture with the City of Gallup, Gallup Police and Fire Departments, McKinley County Sheriff’s Office, McKinley County Emergency and Fire, New Mexico Motor Transportation Department, New Mexico State Police, and Navajo Police Department.

Come enjoy, “30 Days of Opera,” right here in Gallup as The Land of Enchantment Opera open season continues through August 2.

Through the end of July, opera singers belt it out in downtown Gallup, at the McKinley Courthouse Plaza, prior to the Summer Nightly Indian Dances, starting at 6:30 pm.

The LEO features young artists performing nightly such as: Blake Boily-tenor, from Enid, OK; Samantha Resser-mezzo-soprano, from St. Charles, IL; and Kelly DeLameter-baritone, from Myersville, MD, just to name a few.

These young performing artists showcase their talent through the “Young Artists Program.”
