After years of dispute, the governor of Texas signed legislation that will allow those in Texas to carry handguns openly in public. New Mexico already allows open carry, but the move in Texas brings renewed attention to the issue of openly carrying firearms.

The bill, which will not go into effect until next year, was signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott in June. One famous Texas-based fast food chain, however, told customers that non-concealed guns will not be permitted in stores.

Last week I explored the notion of privilege in relation to racial identity, achievement and children raised in broken homes. The scientific consensus is that success and mental health are greatly heightened when children of all races are raised by both their biological mother and father.

Let’s move along to other correlations. Thousands of years ago primitive man almost instinctively realized that a pregnant woman didn’t stand much of a chance providing daily essentials on her own. Once the child was born that reality did not change.

As societies developed it also became apparent that a child abandoned by one or both of their parents would often display behavioral disorders disruptive to society and thus become a burden and even a destructive force.

Our local Senator George Munoz made it clear last year that our myriad of local vagrancy, alcohol and poverty problems, which have only become worse after decades of the same progressive statist approach, should not be a “blame game”but should be about solutions.

His solution is to keep the status quo. The voters of New Mexico spoke in November sending the clear message they are fed up with democrat solutions, which keep our state economically trailing our neighboring states as well as nationally. Yet, Munoz and his fellow senate democrats insist on economy killing tax hikes to finance capital outlay funding thus obstructing passage of the bill.
