WASHINGTON D.C. — U.S. Senators Ben Ray Luján, D-N.M., and Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., introduced a bipartisan resolution in support of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s role promoting nuclear security Oct. 26. This resolution reaffirms U.S. interest in preventing the spread of nuclear weapons, securing nuclear materials, and ensuring that the IAEA has the resources to successfully carry out its duties. Gov. announces New Mexico climate investment center

ALBUQUERQUE — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham was joined by state leaders Oct. 13 to announce the creation of the New Mexico Climate Investment Center.

The Climate Investment Center will issue low-interest loans to local projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The governor was joined at the announcement by Majority Leader Peter Wirth, Pro Tem Mimi Stewart and other legislators.

New Mexico Supreme Court issues opinion on partisan gerrymandering

The state Supreme Court issued an opinion Sept. 22 providing additional guidance to a trial court for resolving a partisan gerrymandering challenge to New Mexico’s congressional districts.

The Court’s unanimous opinion provides the legal reasoning for an order by the justices in August that allowed a congressional redistricting lawsuit to move forward to trial to determine whether alleged partisan gerrymandering violated rights protected by New Mexico’s Constitution.

Lujan Grisham sends $57 million to support law enforcement recruitment efforts across the state

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced Sept. 21 that the state will allocate $57 million from two funds for law enforcement agencies to bolster recruitment and strengthen departments.

This money is on top of the $50 million allocated in 2022 supporting the governor’s initiatives to broaden law enforcement capacity by funding recruitment or retention of law enforcement personnel.
