The real scandal in Springfield, OH

E-mail Print PDF
In what ranks as one of the most memorable debate moments in recent history, Donald Trump said that Haitian immigrants are eating people’s pets in Springfield, Ohio.

No one has yet turned up evidence that this is true, although there is an audio recording of a man reporting that he witnessed four Haitian immigrants...

WASHINGTON D.C. — U.S. Sens. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., and Ben Ray Luján, D-N.M., and U.S. Reps. Teresa Leger Fernández, D-N.M., Melanie Stansbury, D-N.M., and Gabe Vasquez, D-N.M., joined advocates for a press conference on Sept. 24 calling on House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., to hold a vote on a Senate-passed bill that would strengthen the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act. WASHINGTON D.C. — With the United Nations Climate Week set to kick off this weekend, it’s unclear whether Vice President Kamala Harris will be attending. Since becoming the Democratic Nominee for President, Harris has reversed herself on key energy positions such as fracking, electric vehicle mandates, and single-use plastics. These new positions would normally put her at odds with supporters during Climate Week. Historically, Harris has attended international climate conferences, including December’s UN’s COP28 where she pledged $3 billion in taxpayer dollars to support the climate agenda.

“Kamala Harris may run as far away from this conference as possible, but her heart will...

WASHINGTON D.C. — U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., released the following statement after Senate Republicans once again blocked the passage of the Right to IVF Act on Sept. 17. Heinrich introduced the legislation as an original cosponsor to establish a nationwide right to in-vitro fertilization and other assisted reproductive technology. The legislation would also lower the costs of IVF treatment for millions of families, veterans, and service members.

“Once again, Senate Republicans have blocked legislation that would protect families’ freedom to start and grow a family with IVF," Heinrich said. "Republicans are using their position of power to tell people when, how, and...

ALBUQUERQUE — For the first time, the U.S. Census Bureau released a state-level child poverty measurement the week of Sept. 9 that shows anti-poverty policies enacted in New Mexico made an enormous difference for children over the period from 2021-2023. While New Mexico ranks last in the nation under the official poverty measure for child poverty, with a rate of 27.4%, when anti-poverty programs are taken into account under the supplemental poverty measure, the child poverty rate improves dramatically to just 8.9%, ranking the state 22nd in the nation.

While the official poverty measure counts only wage-based income, the supplemental poverty measure also counts anti-poverty programs...
