Chiapetti continues his tenure with Gallup McKinley County Schools

Gallup-McKinley County Schools Board of Education voted 3-2 to retain Frank Chiapetti as superintendent.

The long-awaited results of Chiapetti’s fate came to a close after the Board spent nearly three hours hashing out their differences while in executive session at a special meeting Nov.12.

At the end of the meeting, each of the five-member board members gave their testimonies following the vote.

District 5 board member Lynn Huenemann, who supported Chiapetti’s return, was the first to speak about how the district has a long history of trying to find out ways on becoming fully educationally effective. He believes that the board is not there...

BREAKING NEWS: Hampton Inn west robbed

Police need the public's help identifying a suspect that robbed the Hampton Inn west, 111 Twin Buttes Rd., at gunpoint around 8:10 pm. last night. Gallup Police Department Capt. Rick White said the suspect walked in and demanded an undisclosed amount of money and left the building, heading east on foot.

Witnesses describe the robber, who threatened the clerk with a silver handgun, as a Hispanic male in his 20s who stands between 5"8' to 5'10" tall and weighs between 160-190 lbs. November Teacher of the Month: Jennifer Wilhelm

Jennifer Wilhelm, a fifth grade teacher at Jefferson Elementary School, never knew she would become a teacher. She began her career as a journalism student in high school and in college she was a history major. Her career after college quickly took a different turn as she embarked in a career in business banking for 10 years.

Years later she had a daughter and took some time off. When she decided to go back to work she wanted to do something different so she became a preschool teacher. She realized that she loved teaching and made teaching kids her main passion.
