Running for warriors: Navajo Code Talker 29K/10K Run

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – The 3rd Annual Navajo Code Talker 29K/10K Run was staged Sept. 10 at the Navajo Nation Museum.

This gathering brought together the local communities to engage with one another through health and fitness. They also got to meet a few of the elite soldiers, the Navajo Nation’s prized treasure, the Navajo Code Talkers. Two of the honorable Navajo Code Talkers that were in attendance was John Kinsel, Sr. and Peter McDonald.

Woman escapes with minor injuries

This past Labor Day weekend could have ended tragically for one motorcyclist. Francisca Wright’s ride down eastbound Highway 66, ended abruptly when a car darted out in front of her, near the UPS Store, 2418 Hwy 66, at about 5:15 pm on Sept. 3.

Wright rammed into the silver-colored sedan as the driver attempted to cross the road to turn left. The driver apparently did not see or yield to Wright, and she struck the driver’s side door.

Witnesses said Wright’s husband, who was riding next to her, stopped immediately, dropped his bike, and ran to her aid. When police arrived a few minutes later, Wright was writhing in pain, and frightened...

Nightly Indian Dances closes on another season

As the sun begin to set in the western skies, the Cellicion Traditional Zuni Dancers closed out yet another momentous year at the Gallup Summer Nightly Indian dances with their Buffalo Dance.

Sponsored by the City of Gallup and the Gallup-McKinley Chamber of Commerce, the Nightly Dances have become a yearly tradition downtown at the McKinley County Courthouse plaza for surrounding Native American tribes to showcase their cultures through songs and dances.

Ending its 34th season, the Nightly Dances has continued to please not only locals but has thrilled more tourists than ever. Tourists came not only from North America, but from as far as Australia, Spain, Japan, Sweden, Europe...
