After being called out to one brush fire Jan. 28, the Gallup Fire Department soon found another one in close proximity.
Late at night, Crew A of the GFD was dispatched to the area of the BNSF Railyard on a report of a possible brush fire. Upon arrival in the area, crews noted that the fire was actually located near the Interstate 40 mile marker 20 east bound on-ramp and had units relocate to that area. Upon arriving at that fire, the crews found a 10 foot by 10 foot brush fire and utilized handtools to extinguish the fire.
While extinguishing the initial fire the crews noticed another fire about 1,200 feet away near the area of the Munoz Overpass and additional units were requested to respond. Upon arrival at the second fire, crews found a 10 foot by 50 foot working brush fire and crews utilized handtools and hose lines to extinguish the second fire.
No injuries were reported on both fires.
