The water production department will be starting up pumps at our Heaton Pump Station. The redirection of water flows will lead to some discoloration of water in the water main lines on the east side of Gallup Jan. 28 and 29.
Water customers may experience discoloration in their water system. At this point the City of Gallup Water Department will not be flushing any water lines. This may cause more discoloration to water systems or cause water breaks in the area.
There is no impact to public health. The yellowish tint is due to naturally occurring minerals getting stirred up in the iron pipe of the water main.
Customers may also “self-flush” the line by turning on cold water, full force from a bathtub faucet, until water runs clear again. Do not run hot water, as stirred up sediment may damage a water heater.
