SANTA FE — The New Mexico House Republicans are proud to announce tough-on-crime legislation built from a collaboration with Democrat District Attorney from Bernalillo County Sam Bregman and introduced by Rep. Andrea Reeb, R-Clovis.
As the 9th Judicial District Attorney for over 25 years, Reeb has a deep personal understanding of just how out of control New Mexico's juvenile crime crisis has become. Her professional experience as a New Mexico prosecutor led Reeb to the conclusion that New Mexico's Delinquency Act is in dire need of reform.
The New Mexico House Republicans are proud to announce that the bill introduced by Reeb has bipartisan cooperation, signaling the same point that House Republicans have argued for years: New Mexico's crime crisis impacts everyone, regardless of political affiliation.
"I am very proud to collaborate with DA Bregman on commonsense reforms to New Mexico's juvenile code," Reeb said. "As a prosecutor and then District Attorney, I've seen violent and felony crimes being committed by children and each year the offenders seem to get younger and younger. It's heartbreaking and dangerous. We cannot allow the justice system to fail our communities and our children by allowing juveniles to slip through the system after committing serious offences. I am very proud of the bipartisanship that has been achieved with this legislation."
