Dear Editor,
In the face of uncertainty after the recent election, we want you, our partners and our community, to know: we stand with you. Together we have made monumental progress in our state – expanding healthcare access, protecting affordable housing, ensuring our community has food to eat, and defending our children’s right to a quality education. We will protect these gains, whether in the courtroom, at the legislature, or within our local institutions, and we will continue to work with you to build the future we know is possible.
Our strength as New Mexicans comes from embracing our diversity, and our shared fundamental belief that everyone deserves a dignified life. New Mexicans know there always have been and continue to be powerful interests who undermine our communities by actively working to separate us based on race, class, gender, and other lived identities, but they cannot defeat us as long as we fight together.
No matter what the road ahead brings, we believe in the strength and spirit of our families and in the power of our creativity and collective action. We will remain an unwavering resource for our communities – advocating for the policies that are the highest priorities for New Mexico’s families, taking legal action to prevent harm, and educating to protect our rights. We will keep moving forward with you to push for bold changes until our vision is realized - for justice, dignity and rights for all.
In Solidarity,
The New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty Team
