WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — Navajo Nation Council Delegate Lomardo Aseret announced on Sept. 30 that he is stepping down as a member of the council, effective immediately, to retire from public service and spend more time with family and loved ones.
Aseret has served as an elected member of the Council since January 2023, representing the communities of Houck, Klagetoh, Nahata Dziil, Tsé Si Ani, and Wide Ruins.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve my communities and I thank the people who supported and helped me along the way," he said. "I feel we set the foundation for many initiatives that are in progress. I also thank all of my Council colleagues, staff members, and many others who I had the privilege of working alongside of. As I enter retirement, I look forward to spending more time with family."
Aseret served as a member of the Budget and Finance Committee and the Navajo Hopi Land Commission.
“We are very appreciative of Delegate Aseret’s service to the Navajo people," 25th Navajo Nation Council Speaker Crystalyne Curley said. "His humble service and generosity serves as an example to us all. We pray for him and his family as they enjoy more time together."
In accordance with the Navajo Nation Election Code, once the Navajo Election Administration declares a vacancy the Speaker has the authority to appoint an individual, on an interim basis, to fill the vacant seat with the recommendation of the affected chapters, until a special election is held.
