WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — The 25th Navajo Nation Council will hold a special budget session in mid-September to consider legislation aimed at securing a continuing resolution to address funding for the upcoming fiscal year.
To continue critical direct services for the Navajo people and to avoid a government shutdown, the Council’s Budget and Finance Committee is recommending a continuing resolution.
“Our primary responsibility is to ensure that the Navajo Nation government continues to operate and that our people receive the services they rely on,” Speaker Crystalyne Curley said. "The special session will give us the opportunity to carefully consider the continuing resolution.”
BFC Chair Shaandiin Parrish stated that the committee has conducted its due diligence in the budget process and finds it in the best interest of the Nation to consider a continuing resolution.
The proposed special session will allow the Council to thoroughly review and debate the continuing resolution, which is designed to maintain current funding levels and provide the necessary financial support to Navajo Nation programs and departments beyond the end of the current fiscal year on Sept. 30.
The 25th Navajo Nation Council is committed to working collaboratively to address any concerns and ensure that the needs of the Navajo people are met. Further details regarding the special session, including the date and agenda, was not available by press time.
