FRIDAY NIGHT VIBES: AFTER-HOURS FOR TEENS

6 pm - 9 pm @ OFPL’s Children’s Branch (200 W. Aztec Ave.).  Join OFPL for Friday Night Vibes, a chill hangout time for teens at the library! Unwind with video games, movies, and snacks, or unleash your creativity in our MakerSpace with plot cutters and 3D printers.

FRIDAY NIGHT RIDES

12 pm - 8 pm. @ Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe (306 S. Second St.). On the first Friday of every month, join your fellow motor enthusiasts. Live music, raffles, games, and other fun activities (varies every event).

BACK-TO-SCHOOL CHESS TOURNAMENT

9 am - 4 pm @ El Morro Events Center (210 S. Second St.). This free scholastic tournament is open to chess players of all ages and skill levels. You may register in person on the morning of the tournament, or in advance at ofpl.online.

MAT-CUTTING WORKSHOP FOR ARTISTS

2 pm - 4 pm @ OFPL’s Children’s Branch (200 W. Aztec Ave.). Learn how to use OFPL MakerSpace equipment to cut custom mats for artwork presentation. Space is limited to 12 participants, and advance registration at ofpl.online is required.

LAST DAY OF TERRA FIRMA ART SHOW

@ ART123 Gallery (123 W. Coal Ave.).  This show features paintings, photographs, quilt squares, sculpture, and prints about the land, working the land, being grounded, holding your ground, and breaking new ground. It will be on display until Sept. 7.

STRESS REDUCTION CLINIC

1 pm - 3 pm @ OFPL’s main library (115 W. Hill Ave.). Beginning Aug. 1, OFPL will host Acudetox ear acupuncture clinics every Thursday and Saturday. Treatments can be helpful to relieve stress, insomnia, anxiety, depression, and irritability.

KIDZ CINEMA

LEATHER WORKSHOP: SUNGLASSES CASE

4 pm - 6 pm @ OFPL’s main library (115 W. Hill Ave.). Learn how to use faux leather to create a beautiful sunglasses case, and then use a Cricut and heat press to add your own custom design on top. Class size is limited and advance registration at ofpl.online is required.

REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING

6 pm @ City Council Chambers, Gallup City Hall (110 W. Aztec Ave.). The meeting will also be streamed on the City of Gallup’s Facebook page at City of Gallup, New Mexico Government.

WOMEN VETERAN & FAMILY SUPPORT GROUP

6 pm @ Veterans Helping Veterans (908 E. Buena Vista Ave.). This meeting is for Women Veterans, veteran wives and widows or any woman related to a veteran.

HACK CLUB

4 pm - 5 pm @ OFPL’s Children’s Branch (200 W. Aztec Ave.). Hack Club is a  nonprofit organization that provides community and support to teen coding groups across the country.  Participants learn how to use code to create real-world projects.

OPEN MAKERSPACE TIME

4  pm - 6 pm @ OFPL’s Children’s Branch (200 W. Aztec Ave.).  OFPL’s MakerSpace is a collaborative work space for making, learning, and exploring. Participants ages 5 and up can come in to create their own design for the 3D printers or explore the many engineering activities and equipment!

GOOGLE CAREER ACADEMY MEMBER NIGHT

6 pm - 8 pm @ OFPL’s Children’s Branch (200 W. Aztec Ave.). Gallup Career Academy invites members of the Spring 2024 Cohort to OFPL’’s Makerspace This is your time to create and collaborate! Get help with your Google coursework, or use the MakerSpace equipment. The MakerSpace will be closed to the general public at this time.

42ND ANNUAL KIWANIS FUN RUN

HELLOTECH- HELP WITH YOUR TECHNOLOGY

11 am - 1 pm @ the Northside Senior Center (607 N. Fourth St.).  OFPL staff will be available to provide individual technology assistance. They can help you learn about your electronic devices so that you feel more confident using them!

4 pm @ the UNM-Gallup Zollinger Library (705 Gurley Ave.). This month, Zollinger Library is screening some cult classics that are so bad, they might be good. This week’s film is Fantastic Planet (1973).

On the Fridays before ArtsCrawl OFPL will be open from 12 pm to 5 pm. The special hours help with the staffing needs of ArtsCrawl activities.

‘WALK LIKE MAAD’

7:45 am @ Red Rock Park (825 Outlaw Rd., Church Rock). Mothers Against Drunk Driving will host a walk/run fundraising event that will honor those lost by drunk driving crashes.

STATEWIDE FOOD DRIVE

10 am – 12 pm @ Albertson’s (1702 E. Hwy. 66). All non-perishable food and money will go to the Gallup Community Pantry. The food drive is sponsored by the Gallup Lion’s Club and Leo’s Club.

ARTSCRAWL

7 pm - 9 pm @ Downtown Gallup. Come experience local and professional art,  artist demonstrations, gallery openings, live music, hands-on crafts, and games for the kids.

MAKERSPACE 2 ARTSCRAWL

7 pm - 9 pm @ El Morro Events Center (210 S. Second St.). Help OFPL celebrate National Library Card Sign-Up Month by using the heat press, Cricut cutters, and button makers to create custom library-themed swag!

RECRUITING TEEN ADVISORY BOARD MEMBERS

OFPL is recruiting teens for its Teen Advisory Board. TAB members will provide guidance and assistance for the library’s teen programming, space, and collections. They will also be non-voting members of the Library Advisory Board.  The TAB will meet on the fourth Friday of each month at 6 pm  at the Children & Youth Library.
