Dear Mr. Mayor and Councilors:

If you recall [some may not] that the City of Gallup had an outside consultant conduct an analysis of the City’s Housing market.   The end result was the production of a 1 and ½ inch report which was adopted by the City Council on June 9, 2020 (Resolution R2020-15.).  This analysis would later become the basis for Resolution R022-13 adopted by the City Council on May 24, 2022 “Declaring a Housing Emergency in the City of Gallup and urging support to address this emergency.”

So, here we are – on Aug. 19, 2024 – “wondering” what has been done about this “emergency?”     This is four years and two months later.    I have attached page 61 from that Analysis where it established “Housing Production Goals” for addressing “housing needs” of the City.

Maybe I am crazy to expect this? But, don’t you think it is time to get a report from your key staff on what is going on with these production goals? Or, who is even “monitoring” whether or not anyone is working on these goals.

Just think in another 10 months your “five-years goal” will expire.

Sincerely,
Richard F. Kontz
President of the Gallup Housing Authority
