Public safety is a top priority for City of Gallup staff as the community prepares for hosting the 102nd Gallup Inter-Tribal Ceremonial. City staff are working closely with partners in law enforcement and the Inter-Tribal  organization to implement a safety plan for the parades and events across the community.

The Inter-Tribal parades will take place at two different times: 7 pm on Aug. 8 and 10 am on Aug. 10. Both parades will begin at the intersection of Eighth Street and Historic Highway 66, and continue eastbound on Historic Highway 66. The procession will turn south at the intersection of First Street and Historic Highway 66. The parade will then head west at First Street and Coal Avenue. The parade will end at Eighth Street and Coal Avenue.

For the public’s safety, roads will be cleared and closed along the parade route for both parades. Beginning at 2 pm on Aug. 8, on-street parking will not be allowed along the parade route until the parade concludes at 11 pm. For the Aug. 10 parade, the parade route will be cleared and closed beginning at 12 am on Aug. 9 Friday until the parade concludes at 3 pm on Aug. 10.

Gallup Police Department and other law enforcement agencies will work with vehicle owners to move vehicles before the parades begin. Any vehicles in the parade routes between 2 pm and 11 pm on Aug. 8, or between 12 am and 3 pm on Aug. 10 will be towed at the owner’s expense.

There will be no vehicular access to the businesses on this route. All business owners, employees and customers must park outside of the parade perimeter and access the businesses on foot.

Those parking in surrounding neighborhoods are reminded to keep roads and intersections clear. Do not block driveways of businesses and residences.

City staff from Public Works, Parks and Recreation, Fire Department, Police Department, and more will be on site to assist with keeping the event safe and to provide support resources. The New Mexico State Police, McKinley County Sheriff’s Office and McKinley County Office of Emergency Management are also assisting.

For this year’s event, organizers are utilizing a text message notification system for those interested in updates for the parades and events at Red Rock Park. To opt-in to text notifications about Red Rock Park events, text RRP24 to 888777. To opt-in to text notifications about the parades, text Gallupevent to 888777. You will only be sent notifications related to the opt-in choice(s) you make, and all phone numbers will be purged from the system following the event.
