A man was driving drunk and became violent with police when they pulled him over. He also damaged a police car.

On Aug. 29, around 9 am, Gallup Police Officer Alana Bradley was driving eastbound on Highway 66 near the intersection of Second Street when she noticed a gray car driving westbound on Highway 66 try to make a left hand turn onto Second Street, which is one-way street.

Bradley was able to pull the vehicle over, and when he pulled the car over, the driver, who was identified as Alexander Grebb, stuck his head out the window. When Bradley approached him and explained why she’d pulled him over, Grebb, 31, said he was sorry. When Bradley asked for his license, registration, and insurance, Grebb opened the driver’s side door of his vehicle, and that’s when Bradley noticed a Budweiser beer can in the door’s cup holder.

When Bradley asked him how much he’d had to drink, Grebb said, “not that much.”

Officers also noticed a case of Budweiser on the passenger side’s floorboard.

According to Bradley’s report, Grebb said that he was taking his cousin home and pointed southbound as he said so. He said they’d been coming from Sports Page.

Grebb failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, and Bradley placed him under arrest for a DWI. Back at the McKinley County Sheriff’s Office, Grebb blew a .15 and a .13.  Bradley then began driving Grebb to the Gallup Police Department, where she wanted to complete her paperwork. But before she could get him into the back of her patrol vehicle, he began kicking the car.

Bradley called for assistance, and Lt. Francis Collins arrived at the scene. While at the police department, Grebb continued to act out and leg shackles were placed on him.

As Collins was trying to put a seatbelt on him, Grebb headbutted the lieutenant on the right side of his face, which led to Collins’ glasses falling off and breaking. He also had a small cut on his right cheek.

Grebb continued to kick Bradley’s police vehicle, and he ended up damaging the camera that was in the back of the vehicle.

Grebb was charged with battery against a police officer, criminal damage to property (over $1,000), DWI, first offense, reckless driving, criminal damage to property (less than $1,000), and open container, first offense. His preliminary hearing was scheduled for Sept. 7.
