FIGHTING AT THE MOVIES

Gallup, April 9

A Gallup man reportedly got upset over Sonic the Hedgehog.

Around 5:29 pm on April 9, Gallup Police Officer Julio Yazzie was dispatched to the Red Rock 10 movie theater, 3711 Church Rock St. #4523 because of a domestic dispute. Metro Dispatch informed him that the man he was looking for was Darren Charlie, 27, from Brimhall N.M., and that the man had a warrant out for his arrest.

Yazzie found Charlie walking west on Church Rock Street. Yazzie got out of his patrol car and asked the man to stop walking. Charlie responded by putting his hands up and walking backwards into an open field. He refused to stop and told the officer he didn’t do anything.

Charlie continued to keep walking, but Yazzie and Officer Nicole Diswood were finally able to apprehend him in the parking lot of the Fairfield Inn and Suites, 3510 E. Hwy. 66.

After Charlie was finally detained, the victim and her sister arrived at the scene. The victim explained that she was Charlie’s girlfriend, and that he had gotten upset after he was told that he would be taking “the boys” to see “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” while she and her sister took “the girls” to see “a girly movie.”

The victim said Charlie was intoxicated. She said that he had gotten mad while they were sitting in a car in the movie theater parking lot. He tried to grab the baby that was in her arms, but she was able to pull away from him. The baby wasn’t harmed.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim was able to get the keys out of the car’s ignition before Charlie could drive off. While he was trying to take the keys from her, Charlie scratched the victim’s right ring finger. After this incident, Charlie got out of the car and walked away.

The victim’s sister backed up her story, and she said she put Charlie in a headlock after she noticed that he was reaching for the baby. She noted that she had scratched Charlie’s neck. Yazzie confirmed in the complaint that he noticed a red mark on the man’s neck.

Charlie was taken into custody for the outstanding warrant and charged with child abuse, battery, and resisting arrest. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 20.

“COWORKER’S” APARTMENT

Gallup, April 4

Two people decided they could hang out in an unoccupied apartment.

On April 4, around 5:39 pm, Gallup Police Officer Gilbert Gonzales was dispatched to 1014 W. Wilson Ave. because someone had called in saying two people had broken into the property.

When he arrived at the scene Gonzales spoke to the apartment building owner. She said that when she had arrived at the property earlier that day, she noticed that Apartment B’s door was open.

While she was watching, a man, later identified as Demetrius Davis, 39, from Gallup, came out of the door and she asked him what he was doing there. Davis told the woman that he lived there, but she explained that she owned the property and no one was living in Apartment B.

After talking to the building owner, Gonzales and Officer Jarad Albert walked into Apartment B to see if anyone was inside. According to Gonzales’s police report, he noticed that the apartment door’s lock had been damaged.

When the officers entered the apartment, they met a woman who was later identified as Euronika Descheny, 30, from Gallup. Descheny was sitting on the floor eating chips.

They also found Davis sleeping in a chair in one of the apartment’s bedrooms. When Gonzales woke him up, Davis explained that his coworker “Myron” let him stay in the apartment. But he was unable to provide Myron’s last name or any other information about him.

The building owner said she didn’t know Davis or Descheny, and they didn’t have permission to be in the apartment. They were both arrested for breaking and entering.

Davis and Descheny are both scheduled to have their preliminary examinations on April 20.
