E-mail Print PDF

The New Mexico Department of Transportation and FNF Construction will begin construction on 0.866 miles of NM 566 just north of I-40/ U.S. Hwy. 66 on Feb. 27. The project will include bridge replacement, roadway reconstruction, construction of retaining walls and turnouts, drainage improvements and erosion mitigation, and new street lighting and permanent signage.

Construction on the project is expected to last through late April or early May of 2024. The project will be built in three phases, with Phase 2 expected to have sub-phases. Regular work hours will be Monday-Friday from 6 am to 5 pm, although the contractor is expected to work some weekends and nighttime hours as needed.

PHASE 1 TRAFFIC IMPACTS

During Phase 1 of construction, which is expected to last about two months, the following traffic impacts will take place:

  • Traffic on NM 566 will be shifted to the northbound (right) lanes, with one lane of traffic open in each direction (northbound and southbound) from north of Indian Drive to north of Challenger Road.
  • Access will be maintained to Padre Canyon Road and Red Park Drive.

Construction is scheduled weather permitting and is subject to change without notice. Additional construction phases will follow.

Motorists traveling on this section of NM 566 should use extra caution, expect delays, and allow extra time to reach their destinations.
